FA Gundam:
First I should start off by saying that this kit
is actually a resin conversion kit for the MG Gundam RX-78-2 version
1.5. This kit was my first experience dealing with any type of resin
pieces, and I must say it wasn't as hard as I first thought it would
be. I did have to do a lot of puttying and sanding to get the pieces
to line up correctly, but overall the pieces were not too bad. As
you can tell with this kit, I went for somewhat of an urban camo
look with the two-tone green paint scheme. I didn't want to stray
too far from the original Full Armor Gundam's paint scheme, but
I did want to add my own personal touch to this kit. The entire
kit was airbrushed with Tamiya Acrylics and then top coated with
a mixture of Tamiya Flat and Future. I tried something new with
the panel lines this time. I used a chalk pastel wash, and I must
say I liked it. It was easy enough to control and easy enough to
fix mistakes. I definitely plan on using this technique again in
the future.
Very little modifications were done to this kit
because it was my first time dealing with resin, and I wasn't sure
how to work with it. Actually, the only modification that I did
was add a place to store a beam saber above the shoulder-mounted
cannon. The reason for this was I felt that every so-called Gundam
should have at least one beam saber. With the beam saber added,
the Full Armor Gundam can now be considered an all-purpose Mobile
Suit. The shoulder-mounted cannon can provide long-range attack
power, the arm-mounted cannons provide mid-range attack power, and
the beam saber now allows the Full Armor Gundam to protect itself
in close-combat situations. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience
with resin pieces, and I have already purchased 3 more resin conversion
kits.
Also, I want to send out a Big Thanks to
two people for their help with this kit. First off, I want to thank
Duncan (aka Gouf) owner of the website Kitbash!
and moderator over at CoM
for his advice on working with resin pieces. His tips came in very
handy. The second person I owe Big Time is Phil Goodwin,
who is another moderator over at CoM
and FF's message
board. You can find his site here.
He provided the remarkable decals that you see on this kit. Only
the warning labels were store-bought. Thanks again, guys, for your
help.
